How WordPress Has Changed My Life

Hi,i’m Glenda Wastson Hyatt,the Left Thumb Blogger!
Hi,我叫Glenda Wastson Hyatt，Left Thumb的博主。

One of the many hats I wear is as a Web Accessibility Consultant.
我的众多头衔之一便是Web Accessibility Consultant（网络无障碍顾问）

So when I began looking into blogging a bit more than 3 years ago.
老子是在三年前开始写blog的

Accessibility was very important to me.
无障碍对我来说异常重要。

I had to walk the talk.
我不得不寻求一种说话的方式。

I needed a platform that produces clean,accessible code as well as have a user-friendly interface.
我需要一个具有友好人机对话界面的，简介而又不存在障碍的平台。

Another web accessibility colleague was beginning to blog around the same time and,having done the research.
与此同时，我的一个同事也开始写博了，并进行着同样的研究。

He found Wordpress to be the most accessible.
他认为用wp搭建这个平台是最可行的方案。

I went with his recommendation and hit Publish for the first time on June 1,2005,changing my life forver!
我遵照他的建议于2005年7月1日写了第一篇blog。就此，我的生活为之改变。

Because i speak Glenda-ish due to my cerebral palsy.
因为脑瘫，我只能#￥%……&*（

The written word is my most effective means of communication.
写作对我来说就是最有效的交流方式。

Up until hitting the Publish button,email had been my main communication with the outside world.
此前，我主要与外界沟通的方式就是电邮了。

In-person interactions were even more limited.
我和和别人的互动极其有限。

At one conference,I was sitting in the room with four or five hundred people and I had this intense feeling if being very alone.
曾经参加一次会议，我坐在四五百人中间，感到很孤单很紧张。

No one knew me,no one reached out to me,and,because of my speech,i couldn’t effectively introduce myself.
没有人认识我，没有人和我交流，由于我的生理障碍，我无法向别人自我介绍。

Ironically,the conference was about disablility management and hiring people was disabilities.
讽刺的是，这是关于残障人士管理和雇佣残障人士的会议。

And,i was looking for a job!
更囧的是，我是要去找工作的。。。

Blogging with wp has changed all of that!
用WP写博后，我的一切都改变了。

WP enables me to easily share my written word with the world.
WP可以便捷地让全世界分享我的文字。

Wp has given me a voice.
WP赋予了我说话的能力。

With blogging,i am able to share my thoughts,my ideas and my opinions without my scooter,my disability and my speech impairment getting in the way.
通过写博，我可以分享我的想法、观点。

People get to knew the real me without their misperceptions and assumptions about my disability being an obstacle.
人们开始了解真实的我，不再有误解和误会。残障和语言障碍不再阻碍我了。

That is not to say i hide my disability.
但是这不意味着我要隐瞒我是个残疾人。

I am very open about it.
老子才不会去隐瞒呢！

But,with blogging,I can show that i am more than my cerebral palsy and i can connect with people at a different level than I can when meeting face-to-face for the first time.
有了blog，我能够展现我克服脑瘫的风采，我可以用全新的方式和人们联系、和人们第一时间面对面的交流。

Blogging with wordpress has dramatically increased mu circle if friends and contacts.
用wp写博，极大地丰富了我的朋友圈。

I have formed relationships with many people from all over the globe,including Australia,UK ,chile,canada & US.
我和世界各地的朋友联系，有澳洲人，英国人，智利朋友，还有加拿大和美国的朋友。

Now,at events like BlogWorld,people seek me out!
而且，我还会出现在BlogWorld上~

And,because we have already made a connection online and they know the me inside,they are not taken back by my disability.
朋友们都很了解我，根本不会在乎我是个残疾人~

THX WP 4 giving me a voice that is heard by the world!
